The interpreters' competition was an open competition - they all have to be open to anyone.<BR/>From what you say, Darren will have passed an accreditation test to work as a freelance first, and then later taken a competition to become a member of staff. Some candidates will have taken the open competition tests before ever taking a freelance test.<BR/>If an interpreter is already on the staff of an institution, they may also sit a competition, but of course it will only be worth their while if it is for a higher grade post within the interpreting service than the one they already have.<BR/>andyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
